By the time, she walked out the door, the whole roomful of people were quietly laughing and pointing at her. When the parking lot elevators closed, she saw why: the hem of her skirt was tucked into the side of her gigantic, white underwear.

So I've just written a blog post about saying goodbye to characters, which of course talks about how I meet characters. This says a lot about my muses and how they work. http://wp.me/p3Tp0d-gG

Usually, I get in my car, put on some music and drive. And usually when I do this I end up at some park or some natural place where I can breathe and think and write without all the modern distractions around.
Lately, I've been binge-watching shows that have a dramatic plot (nothing too similar to what I'm writing) to get me thinking about my story in a different way --or thinking about it at all.

Currently, my life is devoid of any "book-worthy" mystery. Except for whatever's in that jar in the back of my fridge.

My favorite fictional couple is Muriel and Macon from "The Accidental Tourist" by Anne Tyler. They are the epitome of reality: having real feelings while dealing with real lives. They're dysfunctional, they have complications in their lives, they're clumsy, and they're falling in love. This all works for me. I have a problem when contemporary real-world romance has a perfect couple with perfect lives, because no one is perfect. Love is messy and hard to hold onto in the real world. It's filled with fat, lumpy, bumpy, rail-thin skinny, awkward, shy, quiet, loud ,wild crazy, sane, and sometimes perfectly "normal" people. Most of them are without ripped abs, perfect hour-glass shapes, or a billion-dollar net worth. That's who I want to see fall in love.

"Twenty-Four Hours of Freedom" came out of a conversation with a friend about the American legal system. Afterwards, I asked myself "What if you had 24 hours before you had to turn yourself in to the authorities?" From there, the writing flowed.

Currently, I'm doing final publishing work to get Book 1 of my "Living Between Dreams" series out (Sneak peek of Chapter 1 is in "Twenty-Four Hours of Freedom"). I'm also writing the first draft of Book 2 in that series.

1) Understand and embrace grammar rules, sentence structure, and language. If you don't have this basic understanding, you don't have the foundation to really express yourself and be understood by readers.
2) Research
3) Get in a writing community-- even if it's a virtual one. This is not a climb-over-people-to-get-to-the-top-industry (for an author, anyway). Everyone has a unique perspective or view and can contribute, so a writing community can only help you connect with others who know what you're dealing with.

I can revise and edit my thoughts before putting them out there in the world.
