Music. When a good song is playing, I can just see a particular scene or story line unfold. I'm a firm believer that music and story telling go hand-in-hand. It can get me in the zone. I even read with music in the background. I once read an entire novel to just one song put on a loop because it fit the story so well.

Write! Write some, write again, and keep writing. Even if it's crap at first, just keep writing. You can ask any musician how they learned to play their instrument and they will say they just play and don't stop. Writing is a craft that will improve no matter how good (or not good) you are. If you want to write, then write! Don't let anyone tell you no, and don't be scared of criticism. Even a bad review is a good one because you can learn from it. Just write!

When I get writer's block, I either begin reading the novel from the beginning to get back in the story line, put on some music that goes with the emotions I'm trying to convey, or I just completely stop and sleep on it. I'm a day dreamer and that's where a lot of my story ideas come from. Just taking a minute to play the scene or story out in my mind can help keep the story moving.
