Katrina Ryan On the top of my summer list is Stephen Fry's Mythos, and Ken Follet's new book which will be out in September!
I've been going through all of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books. I love the world of Shadowhunters and how one series ties beautifully into another through the generations and lore.
Katrina Ryan Being busy with day-to-day life often distracts me from writing. My biggest inspiration, which pulls me back into writing, is the desire to tell a story. If I’m away too long, I begin to miss Victoria’s adventures in Atlantis. Her story has been a part of my life for over half my life, and she’s like a friend who is always there.

While I love the art of writing, it would be a lie to say I’m not also inspired by knowing that someone has read and enjoyed what I write. One of my proudest moments of my life was holding my book for the first time and realizing that I had created something, and this was only the beginning. When I watched Miss Americana (the Taylor Swift documentary) the other day, I could really relate with how she followed her dreams no matter what, and seeing others succeed definitely inspires me to write better and more than I have ever before.
Katrina Ryan Playing with words was the first thing I loved about being a writer. I enjoy putting words together into sentences which made paragraphs, forming chapters and, ultimately, a story. I won’t lie and say I love meeting my characters like some writers might say, because I work hard to shape them over the years and they don’t come to me fully-formed.

What I really enjoy now, after 15 years of writing, is how dynamic the process is. If I want to write, I will. If I don’t won’t. As a self-published author, I have all the control over the whole creative process, from the story I want to tell to how I want my book formatted on Amazon. Writing is somehting I can come back to no matter how long has passed and no day is ever the same.
Katrina Ryan A sequel to The Last Atlanteans. It’s been a work in progress for years but now that The Last Atlanteans is out properly, I have more time to focus on continuing the story. You’ll see even more of Atlantis and learn a lot more about other characters going forward.
Katrina Ryan My primary advice would be to write lots. I’ve heard it takes 100,000 words before you find your feet as a writer - developing your voice and style takes time. I would also say that it is important to know when you’ve done enough editing and that it’s okay for your work to not be what you consider 100% perfect; the most important thing is to get your writing out to readers, because it is so rewarding. You could spend your whole life editing and still never be happy and miss out on so much.
