Just keep writing. There is no big secret to it -- it just takes time and practice and the ability to quiet all the voices in your head that tell you that you can't do it, shouldn't write, have nothing to say, etc, etc. Also, don't write with the idea that you need to get published -- write because you've got something to say. And because you love it. The rest will come. My favorite books on writing are Bird by Bird by Anne Lamotte, On Writing by Stephen King, and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Those will encourage you to keep going!

I love to use words like a palette of paints -- to mix and create color to bring an idea to life. I like to create word pictures for the reader. And I love to see what happens when I sit down to write. I rarely know what will come out when I start writing -- so it's always an adventure!

I'm working on a series of short video devotionals that will hopefully be released this autumn. I want to resource women who are on their computers a lot and want to start their day with a quick connection and devotional to orient their morning. I'm super excited about the series! Look for "Short & Sweet Devotionals with Melissa Maimone" on YouTube soon!

Not very well! I get panicked that I've run out of words and I'll never write anything again. But I've found that if I just keep writing -- even if it's not very good writing or very focused, I find my way back to that "sweet spot" of inspiration and fun once more. It just takes time. And the acceptance that, like most anything worthwhile in life, it will require effort.

A deadline helps! But I also pray and read and listen to others. I want to meet a felt need -- so I try to pay attention to what people are wanting to talk with me about. Then I write out of my passion to offer down-to-earth lessons, stories, and theological truths to my readers.

I do a lot of speaking to women at retreats, conferences, and events. I was struck by how many people felt that the main point of their pain is to get over it -- that God was somehow waiting for them to get over their heartaches in order to bring good things into their lives. I don't want people to wait until things are "better" before the begin to experience God's love and grace. They have full access to it in the midst of the dark places in life. I think there are tremendous blessings in the hard things of life -- and I've learned that through my own journey with depression. I wanted to give hope and light into the dark places of the faith journey.
