I don't really have this. I have days where what I write isn't great, but there's usually something about it I can use. So much about expression is doing a lot of something that never goes anywhere, never sees the light of day. My desktop is littered with aborted or forgotten efforts. It's part of the process.
Also, I force myself to write if I have something to produce. I also draw and paint and make collages; I find it helpful to bounce to another project when I'm stuck on something.

The massive amounts of cash flowing my way. What's the best thing about doing the thing you're best at? It feels amazing, it's a relief, it scratches a creative and emotional itch, I can do it in bed with a snoring cat (for the win).

Take the time to write. Let other people read your work. Take the criticism you need and leave the rest. If I have a project, whether it's a speech or a play or a book, I have to be at least somewhat disciplined about my attention to it. Sometimes it's not what I want to do, but it's ALWAYS the right thing to do, in my experience!

My immediate work is creating a deck of Divination Cards, the text for which emerged during that sweet spot I spoke of! I'm sharing these with my Patreon subscribers. The Patreon site is there to support my larger effort, SUGAR, a speculative memoir about my relationships with various mind-altering substances, including approval and...you guessed it, SUGAR.

Often my ideas come to me when I'm half asleep--that sweet spot where consciousness is undivided and unfiltered. Then it's just a matter of discipline.

My book is about my time detoxing off heroin on the men's detox ward in Butner, NC, as a transgender man. I knew while I was there I was in the eye of a narrative hurricane!
