Susan Perabo Hello! I was not inspired by any novel in particular, but when I was younger I loved YA books that featured the kind of peril that Meredith has long dreamed of facing with her brother Evan. A couple of my favorite YA authors who excelled at peril were Lois Duncan and Jay Bennett.

Hi Susan! I loved the Fall of Lisa Bellow and I especially loved the battling animals :D Are they based on the Papo Mythical Creatures figures at all?
Susan Perabo Yes -- that's exactly what they are! I'm so pleased that someone recognized them. I love them, too. They stood guard on my desk while I wrote the first draft of Lisa Bellow.

Susan Perabo Thanks, Joyce! Yes, Selected Shorts is amazing -- it was such an honor to be included in the Family Matters show. Another story of mine -- "Counting the Ways," from my first collection, "Who I Was Supposed to Be" -- was featured about five years ago, with Robert Sean Leonard as the reader. So I feel doubly lucky to be included twice! (ps Sneaky move with the question mark -- well played.)
