Chris Abernathy I would tell anyone who wants to write to just do it. Every story you write helps you develop your voice and understand yourself. Then start thinking about what you want your writing to do for you. Is it a form of personal therapy? If so, just write what feels right. Are you wanting to earn a living or some extra income? In that case, do the research to find an established genre that your stories can fit into so that you are still writing what you enjoy but also meeting reader expectations.
Chris Abernathy There are many great things about being a writer and it's hard to pick just one but I love that I get to put my real life questions into a scene and see how different characters respond. It helps me to see the world from many perspectives even though it's all filtered through my own knowledge and biases. When readers tell me what they think about those scenes it helps me learn where my biases are and (hopefully) overcome some of them.
