Kenneth Mark Hoover Thank you! Check out Quaternity! Hope to have a new Haxan novel SEVEN DEVILS out later in 2023!
Kenneth Mark Hoover Some years ago I began to listen to the old radio Gunsmoke series and fell in love with them. The creator and head writer, John Meston, wanted to present an adult western that didn't depend on Hollywood cliches. He wanted to present the west as it really was, not like we think it was.

I was instantly hooked and knew I wanted to do the same thing, but in a dark fantasy vein. Haxan was the result, and I haven't looked back since.
Kenneth Mark Hoover I did not grow up in a very happy household. Reading was a way for me to escape. As I got older I knew I wanted to give something back to other readers who needed a story or two to help them forget the pain they were experiencing.

This, more than anything else, is why I write.
Kenneth Mark Hoover I am working on a brand new Haxan novel in the series. This one is titled SEVEN DEVILS and so far I'm about 1/3 of the way through. The novel is coming along, it feels solid, and the story continues to engage me. So far so good!
Kenneth Mark Hoover 1. Tell a good story. (you'd be surprised how many professional writers get this wrong)

2. Trust your instincts. (don't be afraid to take chances! follow your gut, not your head when writing)

3. Never give up. (perseverance is the key, keep writing and submitting your work!)
Kenneth Mark Hoover I love doing research. I have done a lot of research for the Haxan series of novels and short stories I am currently working on. I have visited many of the places featured in the novels and stories. I think this helps a lot when writing about them, getting the tone right, how characters react.

I have met many writers who say they don't like the research part as much. But I love it!
Kenneth Mark Hoover I have been writing long enough to know I need to be patient and wait for the urge to strike me. I know some writers who force themselves to write everyday. That doesn't work for me. I write when I have to and when I need to.

The last is important. Sometimes you come up against a deadline and have to force yourself to work through any obstacles that are in the way. Writing is not easy and it's not a romantic hobby. If you take writing seriously sometimes you have to make yourself write, whether you are "ready" or not.

Writing always comes first. It's a job. If you treat it that way, and don't panic when you do hit a drought, you will make it through to the other side. It's not easy, I admit that. But it is doable. :)
