Brendan Walsh I’d like to reread American Gods and Dune. I have a new edition of AG that has 10,000 more words, and I want to reread Dune again because of the upcoming movie. Also, they’re both two of my favorite books.
Brendan Walsh I'd say: start as early as possible. Make time to at least write SOMETHING. Even if it is just a couple hundred words of prose or a short poem. Also, reading is vital. Getting a feel for how other people write inevitably helps you overtime, especially if you consistently read the genre that you would like to write.
Brendan Walsh I think the best thing is that you’re constantly improving and you’re always coming up with plots and characters. I think these activities can make you a more empathetic and understanding person through your own fondness of these characters in your head.
Brendan Walsh I remember it was back in December 2015. I was browsing the fantasy section of the Barnes and Noble at the Americana in Glendale, and it came to me. It weird how things can just come to you when you're not expecting it. I think it's good to let ideas come find you, because I've had many good ideas while doing normal activities.
Brendan Walsh Through reading, watching movies, and basically being exposed to any kind of storytelling. I'm always looking for new and original ideas for plots and characters. The key is to always be looking, and most of the time, inspiration and creativity will come to you. Also, I find going out for walks a few times a week helps me.
Brendan Walsh That's a good question. In my experience, the best thing to do is to just write SOMETHING every day. If you continue to write, even if it is a very small amount, you will get new ideas from even just some of the shortest things that come out of your head. Not only that, but your motivation will improve.
Brendan Walsh Right now, I'm about 35,000 words into the sequel to The Raven Gang, called The Serpent League. Considering how fast City Lights Press goes, I think it will be released before the end of the year. I'm also about 7000 words into a high fantasy project I'm getting serious about. It's a thrilling idea for me, and hopefully it can get me an agent when I query.
