While recovering from illness, I was sucked into a detective TV series, where the dynamic between the leads captivated me. A little later, my kids introduced me to a scifi TV series with a redemptive theme that intrigued me. I wondered what would happen if I'd mash the concepts together and write from a teen POV and an adult POV, alternating chapters. From that, my series was born. My most recent book finished that story arc--and opened the door for a new one using the same characters.

Everyday life inspires me. When facing adversity or boredom, or even when experiencing something amazing, my mind starts spinning, and I think, "Wow, if I could only___ (fill in the blank)." And suddenly, I've got the seed for a new book. Never outgrowing my childhood imagination might be my greatest asset as a writer.

Two projects: (1) a follow on to my YA scifi, suspense series (The Tacket Secret) and (2) a YA allegory, fantasy series.
The first is in concept stage. The second has a 1st draft complete.

Just keep writing. Just keep writing. Just keep writing.
As Dori (Finding Nemo) reminds us, fish need to keep swimming to stay alive. Writers need to keep writing. Yes, there are other responsibilities that need attention: publishing, marketing, and real life. However, it's too easy for the creative flame to be snuffed out. The best way to keep it flickering, to keep hope as a writer alive, is to keep writing through the ups, the downs, and everything in between. But make sure the writing gets better--read and study the craft.

Control. (Insert wicked laugh here.) Seriously. My characters. My story. Storytelling is the only area of life in which I actually have complete control, so I make the most of it.

Writers block implies an author can't come up with anything original or creative. If that's the case, I borrow well-worn concepts to keep the story moving forward. I can re-write later. That's my biggest weapon against writers block--I just keep writing. A paragraph, chapter, even character arcs can be adjusted, corrected, or replaced later...because after all, writing is re-writing.
