Jordan R. Murray If I'm having trouble writing anything at all it usually means I'm stressed. Taking a long walk helps me to clear my mind, while a change of scenery allows me time to think over what I'm trying to accomplish.

It is inevitable that writers reach a few dead ends during the early days of crafting a story. When this happens, I find it helpful to use outlines. I choose 2-3 different outcomes for the idea or chapter that I want to write and think:

What would happen in a best, neutral, or worst case scenario?
How would each of these paths affect my existing characters?
Does moving in direction contradict any existing plot points or character details?

By taking a few steps forward with each scenario, I build new energy that helps to keep the story moving forward in an authentic, natural, and interesting direction.
Jordan R. Murray You will delete parts of what you write, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with sharpening your dialogue, creating decisive characters, or crafting a fluid story line.

Set smaller goals. Little triumphs are essential and will help you to keep moving forward.

You will doubt your work, your drive, and your ideas. Use those moments to remember your favorite characters, scenes, and the ideas that sharpen your passion.

Remember to look out the window.
