K.M. Fortune The sense of accomplishment when I read over what I’ve worked on at the end of the day. The creative process is simply mind-blowing. I often look back over my writing and wonder, “how did I even think to write those words? Where did they come from inside me?” It is truly amazing.
K.M. Fortune Write with a plan. I break down my stories into single sentence chapter summaries. When I have the general line of sight from start to finish, then I start building the paragraphs, which then become chapters, and eventually a book. Successful writing is process as well as an act of creating art.
K.M. Fortune If you look at the first entry into my blog, you will read why I started writing “Awakening” but the idea evolved from a secondary character, Kit. She resembles a childhood fantasy of mine where I am something of a ninja-like figure. I don’t want to give more away about her but it turned out she was not enough to carry a story alone so I developed another character, Raven. Raven quickly grew into a very intricate personality and I found a way to have her sort of “time travel” if you will to a dsytopian future. Everything else grew from there and is frankly still growing as the serial novel unfolds into the yet unwritten final books.
K.M. Fortune I’m working on multiple projects at all times. It is simply impossible to be a success in this business without maintaining both inventory and visibility. I make every effort to split my time 50/50 between writing new or editing existing content and marketing my books. That being said, my primary focus for the next few weeks is working my way through rewrites and edits to my second book, “Survival”, in The Forever Winter Chronicles, while promoting the first book, “Awakening”.
K.M. Fortune Writer’s block can be a challenge but there are ways to navigate around it and they don’t necessarily have anything to do with actually writing. For me, ideas come at times when I’m concentrating on something else. For example, I take my dog for a long walk or take a hot bath. Sometimes cleaning the house does it or going for a drive in the country. The trick, however, when the lightning strikes and an idea comes to me, I need a way to capture it. I always carry my smartphone and dictate into notes to capture the highlights at least. Then, I go back to my desk as soon as possible and write the ideas out before the nuances are lost.
