Oh, gosh. I'll read anything, really. Mostly, I dig horror (duh), science fiction or light fantasy. Preferably the humorous kind because I prefer everything to be tempered with humor on some level. I mean, I do love my grimdark stuff but give me a M.Y.T.H. Inc. book by Robert Asprin and I'm a happy cubby.
As for the book, all told, it was about 4 years worth of blog posts put together, once a week for three years then some major gaps, but I figure 2 hours a week times 52 times 3... two weeks total? I'm not knocking the difficulty level of writing fiction at ALL. That shit's hard. Writing non-fiction is just a matter of doing the research and presenting your findings. It was making it funny that took the most time.

To be fair? I don't really know. I mean, I get that having a piece of work out there for others to read is a fantastic feeling but I'm super new to this and I self-published. I didn't sign a deal with a publishing company, I set it up to be read on Amazon. So, maybe I don't know enough about the publishing world to say. All I know is that I'm proud of what I've done and I can't wait to do it again.

Well, first, READ! You don't get to know the language of books until you immerse yourself in them. You can get a feel for what you like, what inspires you, and what you want to write about. Next, pay attention to pop culture and culture in general. Relating to an audience requires knowing what they react to. If you want to write horror or about horror movies, you'd better know that Jason wasn't the killer in the original Friday the 13th. Finally, just write. Write when you want to. Write when you need to. Write when you feel you can. Don't sweat writer's block. It comes and goes but your work can't shine through if you don't actually get it out of your head and onto paper.

I'm currently gathering material for TROPEFEST 2!: Return of the Killer Cliches. These things kill me, for real. I figure if I'm annoyed at the final girl always losing cell phone coverage and losing the keys to her car, I need to share the pain. Welcome, my audience! Won't you have a seat?

I'm a very organic type of person and I never plan anything out so I write whenever I feel the need and when I can. Because a lot of my writing is through blog posts, and because I don't write fiction (since I can't keep track of a plot to save my life but it's still fun to try), it's super-easy for me to MST3K a movie or research a trope. I feel that if you write the way you speak, writing is a lot easier.

I love horror movies so much that I love to make fun of them, too. I just thought that I could lay out some of the "tricks of the trade". as it were, as to why we see a lot of the same tropes in every movie. If I could do it in a way that didn't sound like you were reading stereo instructions, that made me happy.
