Cheryl Guerriero My cousin died when she was only 16. I was 14 at the time. The sadness and devastation that caused her mother (including others that knew her) stayed with me. I became a writer and one day I was standing in a grocery store line and I saw a magazine with the title of an article "Gangs, it's just not a guy thing." In that moment--my life experiences connected with an idea. A young woman infiltrates a female gang responsible for killing her younger sister in order to get revenge. I always knew it would be so much more than that though.
Cheryl Guerriero Trust your gut. Write what you love and know. Have patience. While writing if your head tells you "I can't" or "I'm not good enough" or "this stinks!" or "he/she is a better writer than me" -- DO NOT LISTEN. Keep writing. We all have individual voices and stories to tell.
