That's a hard one. I don't think there are any mysteries in my life; only occasional questions that need a little more thought, or possibly some research.

I might sometimes get a bit stuck with a character's development, but generally writing something else, or spending a day working on a different book will sort that out. Sometimes there's no alternative to simply forcing yourself to write something - anything - and it's much easier to edit than to create!

It's just the best possible life, if you can afford to do it full-time, and massively satisfying even if you can only make half an hour a day available.

Don't look at all the twaddle written about avoiding words, using certain phrases and above all, daily word counts. They'll just make you feel that you'll never do it. Get your story written down - at twenty words a day, if that's what you're comfortable with. It must be massively edited a thousand time afterwards anyway, and that's when you can start worrying about the finer details.

I don't exactly get inspired. I just have an idea, which I usually try out on my long-suffering daughter, and if it feels as though the whole thing has some mileage, I sit down and write it.

It seems obvious to me that I'm predicting the future, though I've probably made it a bit nicer than it actually would be. So I had to write it as it is!
