Great question. I really wish my life were that exciting. I'd already have completed a mystery novel years ago if I had my own story to tell. I think my story would be better suited for some kind of love story than a mystery.

I like to watch shows on the science channel. For the types of things I like to write about there is a LOT of material that I can pull from, and from almost any show on that channel.
I also get inspired by other writers. I find more so when listening to them on audiobook for some reason.

I force myself to write at least 250 words per day. Even if I have to use a writing queue to get something to write about. I also find it helpful to be working on more than one idea at a time. That way if I get stuck on one idea, I can work on the other.

Being able to create worlds exactly the way you want them. Having total control over the characters. Just the craft of doing this. It's also nice to see how people react to your creations.

Just sit down and start doing it. I can't tell you how long I've been accumulating ideas, and always thought that someday I would hire a ghost writer to do it for me. It's more fun to just start doing it. honestly once you get past the first thousand words you just get into a grove.

I'm currently working on two full novels. Tentatively titled, Let it Rain and Trinity Complex.
Let it Rain is about a terrorist plot and the race to stop it.
Trinity complex takes place in an alternate reality where Jesus had never existed. Egypt is still the power in the world. A small group of people has released a virus that will wipe out the human race in under a month. It tells the story of Gabriel Cohen, who will stop at nothing to reverse this virus, including changing history forever.

It's funny how the final product doesn't necessarily mirror the original idea. This idea came to me over a decade ago, when I read a story about a murder related to a posting on craigslist. I thought it would be interesting to have a character trying to utilize craigslist in order to find somebody to murder, only to become the victim them self. If you've read this short story you know that this is obviously not exactly what happens here. In fact this is the third phase of this idea... but I don't want to spoil anything.
