From a photo of an Native American my editor sent me. He looked like a hawk shifter to me but his stance and gaze was so military. A friend of mine was retiring from the Marine Corps so I ran some ideas past him and the story took off.

The book is Hawk's Honor and part of the 1 Night Stand series from Decadent Publishing. The hero is a Native American Hawk shifter serving in the Marine Corps as a special op. He's secretly in love with his commanding officer but will never let her know due to his honor of respecting her and the rules of the Corps. When they are set up for a 1 night stand with each other, he fights with his honorable intentions until he finds out what really happened on her last mission and why she's not returning as his commander.
