Mathai Joseph I don't write fantasy or science fiction. The starting point for my novels is somewhere in my own experience.
Mathai Joseph I am working on my next novel. It is also set in Mumbai and has some of the same characters as Dead to Reason.
Mathai Joseph I am unable to write when my story is not moving along. Sometimes, that means I need a break and to read other things. Or it may mean that the story needs to change and evolve.
Mathai Joseph It constantly sharpens the way you write and the way you think.
Mathai Joseph 1. Write! If you set yourself a target, you'll be surprised at what you are capable of.
2. Read! Get familiar with as many books as you can in the area of your choice.
Mathai Joseph I write when I have something to put down. I don't fix a time every day, I may not even write every day. The story goes through my head many times, usually in the middle of the night (!) before it becomes clear. Writing it is easy after that, though it will go through many re-writes before it is final.
Mathai Joseph The IT industry has completely changed the Indian technology scene and the lives of millions of people. Yet almost no fiction has been written about it. What is life like in a software startup? Who are the people who run these startups and what is their background? Trying to answer these questions took me back to the 1975 Emergency in India when all rights were suspended. The story came out of these issues.
