I have "Snow in April" coming out on April 1. This is the third in the Concordia series. Those characters have become so real to me I couldn't just let them hang around without finding more for them to do.... so I had to write another book.

It all started with my own kids, then the grandkids, wanting a story at bedtime. I found I could make up a tale on the fly, so to speak, and they would ask for the same ones over and over. So I had to write them down. Then they got longer. Then they became books. Who knows what's next?

I'm just beginning a story about a family dealing with the mother's illness, from the children's point of view.

Don't be afraid to take advice. Ask people with skills for an honest opinion and listen to it. Put your ego in the closet. And keep trying.

In terms of the story and the characters, I love that they're all mine. When I was writing music, I always had to get help due to a lack of good training in that area. With writing, I feel that I can fully own it.
Also, it's a big thrill when you actually see it in print!

I tend to write in fits and starts. I spend a lot of time thinking about the story before I ever try to put it down. If nothing is coming to me, I put it on the back burner and work on something else for a while. Sometimes an idea is just a dead end and there's no shame in moving on to something else.
