Neal Ritter There's an old video of me when I was only two or three. It was Christmas time, and I was focused on two gifts. With one hand, I was rocking the rocking horse. But out of several gifts, my attention was directed toward a picture book.

I don't pre-plan. I have a multiple-page list of authors whose books I've read with titles and corresponding ratings. When it's time, I look at what's available and choose between a favored, familiar author and one with a book description that catches my eye. Truth be told, I'm the kind of guy who reads cereal labels and anything else in my line of vision. Send me a message, and I promise I'll read it.
Neal Ritter I still remember an old book by Robin Cook called Abduction. It was a departure from his usual style of medical thrillers. He drew me into the idealistical world of Atlantis where, at least as I remember, there was freedom from ordinary societal restraints. I love nothing more than a book that can become my temporary reality and allow me to consider things anew.
Neal Ritter While in graduate school, I was dating a woman who shared with me a copy of "Tibetian Book of the Dead." I thought little about it until I returned home from seeing her a few days later to discover that I had no heat on a cold winter night. The next morning, the puzzled electrician said that the fuse was not blown but was instead totally missing. He said he had never seen anything like it before. My place was locked before I left and again on my return. There was no obvious reason someone would have broken in to take it. My benefactor later told me that she had found the eggs from her refrigerator smashed all over the kitchen. Being a gentleman, I thanked her again for the book and then threw it in a distant trashcan.
Neal Ritter As he prepared to market his new book, the bumbling author reviewed his Goodreads author page. He shrieked in alarm and dismay when he discovered that he hadn't answered any of the previous reader questions.
