I generally take a break from my laptop and go exercise. A good jog, a nice bike ride, punching a boxing bag - all help me clear my head.

I suppose people write for a number of different reasons. I write because I've tried NOT writing, and I just couldn't do it! Also, I'm incredibly passionate about conveying the practical truths of Scripture in ways people can actually apply. I prepare my lesson plans in a conversational manner; I literally write every word I plan to say. Devotionals work the same way for me. Lastly, once a message has been written, it's retained for the ages. I like having something from my heart that my children and grandchildren can one day read (if they choose)!

Write about something for which you have great passion - if you don't care about your topic/subject, you can't expect your readers to. Then, just get started - don't wait for the perfect moment to arrive - it generally doesn't!

Life! I find it fascinating and full of teachable moments every day. I also love to read, and listen to the stories of others - there is always more to learn. Because my content is bible-based, obviously my own time is Scripture, personal prayer, along with time spent in preparing two lesson plans each week serve as the largest sources of inspiration.

The daily devotional books came about when members of the adult Sunday School class I taught suggested I make the highlights from various lessons available to a larger audience.
