Jack Dublin I view art or photographs and imagine what events led to that moment, and what events must immediately follow; I listen to music and imagine stories that follow the twists and turns and arc of the melody; I mash up different character types to see if they produce an unexpected chemical reaction.
Jack Dublin From the folk song Oh, My Darling, Clementine. No one knows who wrote the song, but I suspect it was written by several people sitting around a campfire playing a sort of memory and forfeits game, where the first person made up a verse, and the person next to him had to sing the verse and add a second to it to keep the song going, and so on. Considered this way, the song draws on the life experiences of several people. I wondered what other tales would they share with us if they could? Using the Miner 49er as a vessel to carry the tales I imagined, The Lost and Found Journal series was born.
Jack Dublin For me, writer's block means I haven't settled on a course of action for a scene, but that doesn't mean I'm unprepared to write. So, I write something other than what I'm stuck on. Could be a different scene or a different story.
Jack Dublin Write. Whatever you put down today will look better tomorrow. The important thing is to move it from within to without.
Jack Dublin The Lost and Found Journal of a Miner 49er: Vol. 3; The Lost and Found Journal of Clementine; and an unrelated series much older than the Gold Rush.
