I have an ever-growing list of books to read. Some fiction, some non-fiction. I'm currently going back and forth between Bram Stoker's Dracula and Joe Hill's N0S4A2.

There are quite a few stories in my first horror collection, and each idea came from some place different. Vicky's phone came from watching a group of teens interact on a train; Don't Say a Word is loosely based on a true story. Ideas come from all around me.

Inspiration can be found in many things. Sometimes it's something as simple as thinking of a cool title or word that I like and building a story around it. It may seem backwards, but it works for me.

There are a few ways I try and tackle writer's block. One is to write random sentences and words on the page until something clicks. The other is to set that particular project aside and focus on another. If the ideas really don't want to show themselves that day, I may read a book or do research.
