My third historical is set in Elizabethan England, the Livonian War in the Baltic, and at the court of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. Will a member of Queen Elizabeth's family marry the Russian tyrant?

I taught history at university for many years, but rarely found the time to write creatively. It was always the old adage "Publish or Perish" which meant researching and writing for a juried review. Now that I'm retired, I set my own hours usually starting about 9 a.m., then it's wherever the muse takes me.

I always start my writing for the day by re-reading what I had written the previous day. Usually I end up editing that piece and that puts me in the right frame of mind to continue on to the next scene or development.

As an academic historian, I have read numerous history texts (both primary and secondary sources) that have given me insight into many historical interesting vignettes. My recently sold novels include a fictionalized version of a true adventure of African exploration, and a story based on the British military disaster in Afghanistan in the early 1840s.
