I find that taking long walks is really helpful... sometimes while listening to a book on tape by an author who inspires me. If I just let go of my tight grip on how I think its all supposed to be going, I start to see a new path. Writer's block to me is like tackling a tight hamstring on my mat. If I'm forceful, I'll just create more pain and less mobility. If I send it some love it will start to let me in.

To me the best thing about being a writer is the deep dive it makes us take into what we are really trying to say. Words on a page don't necessarily have meaning until we breathe life into them in ways that require the "pay close attention" I talk about in Close to OM. Yoga and writing ask us to be fully present, accountable for our words and actions, and patient enough to get to the source and the Self- that's incredibly enriching. Being the best writer we can be helps us to become the best person we can be.

Keep going. Writing is an endurance race, not a sprint.
Seek out wonderful writers to read and devour everything you can by them. Find someone you really value as an editor and be willing to listen and learn from them. My agent Jane von Mehren was an incredible coach for me. Working on my proposal was like a writer's bootcamp and I am forever grateful for the chops she helped me develop.
Just like yoga, evolving as a writer is ongoing. I have many more ways to grow and improve, and that's really exciting to me. I think it is essential in writing and in life to stay curious and to never get bamboozled into thinking we already know.

I write for the lululemon blog, as well as for other publications. Since finishing Close to OM a few months ago, I've been traveling a lot and teaching at festivals, retreats and events. Right now much of my focus is on my January 2nd release date for Close to OM. I'm super excited to share my book with everyone - it seems almost surreal... like I'm about to tell a secret I've been keeping for a couple of years. I can't wait to hear what you think!

For many years I was a singer/songwriter and lyrics were my thing. Then, once I started teaching yoga, I found myself less and less interested in sitting at the piano and more and more interested in the other sort of keyboard. As I say in the pages of Close to OM - I believe all creativity comes from the same place. Part of my "do all of it" is writing-- regardless of whether that's a song, an article or a book.

I've been practicing yoga for the last two decades. It has given me insight that stretches far beyond my mat. When I started teaching about 17 years ago, I saw the same awareness and positive shifts happening in my students. It was from there that Close to OM was born.
