Hello, I'm an avid reader of books about the Victoria Cross. I note your publication " Quid Non Pro Patria, the short distinguished military life of Henry James Nicholas." I see a copy on abebooks.uk and note the price is far more than my pension allows. A friend recently visited Christchurch in the hope of finding a more reasonably priced copy, alas, no luck. Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?
John H. Gray He sat in his dark and dank cell , his head slouched forward in his hands and his greasy hair hanging forward. The warden approached carrying a baby and when 5 feet from the cell slashed the baby's throat.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
John H. Gray The pacific island of the Cook Islands. To be swept into the folklore and experience the myths and dreams of local history

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
John H. Gray How I have survived some of life's challenges so far.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
John H. Gray After spending several years visiting the Dutch West Indies island of Aruba and having been involved with editing and co-authoring two local books that dealt with some WWII history, I realized that Aruba offered the perfect backdrop for a romance, drama, history and travel novel. I researched and found there were none written so I proceeded.

John H. Gray Watching everyday life where things can be stranger than fiction.

What are you currently working on?
John H. Gray A sequel to "Journey of Betrayals". In addition I am writing "Claude's Quandary", a humorous romance story of the son of a wealthy old French aristocratic family with international vineyards. Claude is a playboy at heart and gets into a strange relationship filled with deception.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
John H. Gray Don't ever doubt yourself or your capabilities. After all, you believed in yourself enough to start writing a story.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
John H. Gray I really enjoy conversations with readers or those curious about why I wrote the story or what it is about. I often find these folks get drawn into the story and inevitably want to know more.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
John H. Gray I will stop attempting to continue writing and engage in some other activity and return to my project later with fresh thoughts.
