Maria Akhanji Almost a decade ago, I went through a phase where some of my reviewers told me that it seemed like I had merged two books into one! I had already written over 63k words and writer's block - the size of a boulder - (being metaphorical here!) dropped on me! For almost 2 years I stopped writing. Then my circumstances put me in my writer shoes again. I had to cut and paste various parts which eventually became the first and second book of the trilogy...(Yeah this is the point in time when I realised that this was a far bigger project than I had imagined.)
Maria Akhanji Frankly, it gives you literary power - you can be a parrhesiast - a free thinker who says whatever they believe or not believe in.
Maria Akhanji Write if you love the idea of writing and expressing yourself on paper. Not because someone made a lot of money by writing something.
Maria Akhanji Currently I am doing my dissertation for my Master's in Creative Writing. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I finished writing the second volume in 2017. I'm editing it now through the pricelesss advice of my mentors, hopefully BrideMaids should be out by this xmas!
Maria Akhanji Honestly, I write all the time even in my head when I'm actually not typing! Anything I see, hear, smell, taste, touch - yes! all the five senses inspire me to write. I feel so happy to be alive and be able to appreciate this blessing of life by writing about my experiences and others'.
Maria Akhanji I just wanted to write one book based on the idea of child abuse based in a SouthAsian, Muslim, affluent and educated background. But as I delved into it, I realised that it's a far bigger project than I had imagined. There are lots of issues, like child abuse, abuse to women, misogyny, religious bigotry, cultural clashes, and finally I figured that they all are intertwined!
