Howard Pierce The best thing about being a writer is not having to rely on anyone else during the course of the average day.
Howard Pierce I am currently working on the third book of my Serendipity trilogy. The first book (Pavlov's Colon) is set 40 years in the future and begins with the president of the United States "rapturing" on prime time news. The second book (Macronome) takes place in the year 2128 and continues the story, as mankind hits the evolutionary wall and begins to decompensate. The third book is set in 3216, with humans no longer the masters of the earth.
Howard Pierce All I have to do is read the papers and watch the news to get inspired. It's easy and fun to speculate on where the parade of daily absurdities will lead us in the coming and distant futures.
Howard Pierce After years of working in the worlds of architecture, building, and software design and construction, I began to realize that they all three suffer from a similar degradation of precision and robustness of design process. Witness the current mess with Boeing's new Max 8 airplanes. So I decided to accept the notion that, as a race, we are getting stupider in certain essential ways - and to write a book that also accepts that notion.
