I learned to write putting out weekly newspapers. Writer's block was not allowed. When I work on longer pieces, I force myself to sit down and write at least one sentence, and then I go on.

I did research on the Press during the Porfiriato and became familiar with Ricardo Flores Magon at that time, but I blindly accepted the image of most historians held of him: he was a propagandist. Actually, throughout his career, he published accurate information about the situation in Mexico. Later, living and working in China and Nigeria broadened my view of comparative jouralism and I also spent 20 years in American Indian Country -- I found a strong connection between RFM and the Indios of his time.
