Kelly N. Jane I'm currently working on a revision of book 2 in the Enchanted Shadows series - Rune of Thorns. It was released during a turbulent time in my life, and the story deserved better. I'm so excited by how it is shaping up. When it is finished, the series will be able to move forward in the best way possible.
Kelly N. Jane What inspires me is a simple answer; reading. I read every day, even if it's a short time. Finding time to read is essential to building my writing muscles. I'm in complete agreement with what Stephen King has to say about reading:

“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
― Stephen King
Kelly N. Jane After many years staying home to take care of my two girls and owning my own business, I struggle with the confinement of someone else's rules. Being a writer allows me to work where and when I want, with whomever I want. Make no mistake, however; I treat it as a business. I don't believe in the "waiting for the muse" system of inspiration. I go into my office every day, and I write every day. Writing isn't a hobby for me, so I don't treat it like one. Now, that doesn't mean that my office might not be the patio on a sunny day, the car when I travel with my husband for his work or a coffee shop when I'm meeting with my other writer friends. Battling my self-confidence and meeting deadlines are not so great, but I'll take that pressure to work at something that gives me the freedom to do what I love anytime.
Kelly N. Jane I love history. I always have, it was my first major in college until I chickened out of it because: "What can you do with that?" I have some pretty good answers to those people now!

For me, the blending of actual historical facts with mythological elements makes for a fun story. When the period is shrouded in mystery because of only having oral traditions, like in the 9th and 10th centuries, that is especially exciting. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation as a writer.

Ingrid made herself known to me in little bits and pieces over time until I knew I needed to tell her story.
Kelly N. Jane The very best thing for me is to shower! When I can't do that I change things up a little and use a real pen and paper, take a walk outside, or try and write something completely different to change my perspective. Never underestimate the power of sitting down with a good book and just plain reading, though. It always helps, in so many ways.
