The idea for Trial by Song started as a spinoff to a story I wrote in high school. Jack's role was much different then, but the character stuck with mend I realized that I wanted to follow his story to see where it would take me.

Try to remember that you can't please everyone. Some people might hate what you write, but some people will love it. Write your story for them. And you.

I free write until the words start flowing on their own again. I rarely start a story without knowing where it's headed, so while I might not get as many words out in a sitting as I'd like, I can usually let the characters spin their wheels until I'm in the mood to get back into the story.
