It is usually by a picture, a song, a sentence that comes to mind and I start feeling the need to develop it. It is sometimes even a part of a dream, as it was the case with "A Heart of Stone" - I saw one of the scenes in a dream and was so moved by it that I sat down and developed the whole story around it.
