Thanks for your question. The lines for me on what is YA is a blur. And to narrow it down to one is hard. The Book Thief is a great story, though I think it’s more for adults. I’ll have to check out cushman, as I’m not familiar with her work.

It started with a song and a very different premise, but the theme is similar. it's about the weight of our identities, our families, relationships and how those people, good or bad, affect us so much, enough that we will do nearly anything to make it all work the way we want.
