Gary Heiden Once upon a time, there was a shamelessly spoiled brat who learned from a master how to con the system, by replacing truth with fiction. A perfect storm then arose and washed this bloated, childish bully into the White House.
Gary Heiden First, I pay attention to what is going on in the world. For me, this includes studying people to find out what makes them tick, to getting down & dirty to studying insects & the macro world & nature. I get angry. I'm motivated by my failure not to write, to create. Then I get to work & try and make sure to say something important. A mind is a terrible thing to waste! I try to remember that fact.
Gary Heiden I'm now writing a "novel memoir" and it's working title is The Invisible Birdman of Brooklyn. The story is inspired by a real-life character who led a secret life for over 25 years.
Gary Heiden I faced a different kind of writer's block. I was basically a poet/visual artist who was now attempting to write an epic coming of age memoir. I simply had too much material to choose from. My block was due to this log jam of memories. I simply felt overwhelmed by the task before me. A persistent pecking away finally freed up my writing.
