A.L. Exley You'd think zombies would be terrible at stealth. Nope: I was dead before I started believing in them.
A.L. Exley I don't have any sort of special trick for it. If I come to a part of the story I don't know how to continue, I'll leave it. Maybe I'll write some really poor explanation for it that'll continue the story so I can focus on other parts. Maybe I'll come back and fix the part I left out, or I'll delete it altogether and substitute it for something else. But no matter what, I keep writing.
A.L. Exley There's a kind of rush when I'm writing out a scene. I can see it, and hear the characters talking and feel the world around me. I find myself hysterically laughing at my own jokes and crying when I'm writing about pain and death. For a moment I'm completely absorbed into a world of my own. That's the best part for me.
A.L. Exley Don't worry so much about formats and drafts and editing at first. Write your ideas down first, and come back to them later. Or if you don't feel like ever coming back to them, that's fine. My favorite piece of advice is to be selfish. Some people are so obsessed with making money and getting popular that they forget to do things for themselves, their own personal enjoyment.
A.L. Exley I've started working on the second book of the Runestone Guardians series, although I haven't gotten very far.
A.L. Exley I was inspired by other authors like Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Gary Paulson and Jack London. I loved their stories and how they told them, and when I got my own idea's for stories, I wanted to write them down somewhere and share them.
A.L. Exley My idea for The Runestone Guardians came from years of growing up with a big imagination. As I kid I'd watch movies and read books, then act out the stories. Over the years, the stories morphed into my own idea that changed every time I thought about it. I've always loved animals and nature, and when I was thirteen I became interested in Norse Mythology.
