When I've had problems with where the story wants to go, I'll start working on another story or working with my dogs or quilting. It seems that doing something else tucks the problem into the back of my mind and lets it think about the story. When I come back, usually within a couple of days, I'll read the last paragraph I wrote and away we go.

I can finally write all the stories that are in my imagination. It took a long time to realize that all I needed to do was start. One word, one sentence at a time. I can write whenever and wherever I want to.

Write every day. It doesn't matter if it is one word or one thousand. Write something every day. I've found that if I keep the draft of the book open on my computer, I work on it. I write every day.

I'm currently working on the second book in The Dragon's Children Series, "Windward Range". The first book, "Red Dragon's Keep", follows Thomas Arach in his battle to save his ancestral home from the coming Demon War. The second book follows Owen, Thomas's younger brother, as he learns to be his own person outside of the shadow of his brother and father.

I write at my kitchen table. It has sliding glass doors, so I can see outside and listen to the birds and my dogs while I write. I have a cup of tea or coffee and my Irish-English dictionary that I bought in Ireland sitting next to the laptop. I have a small dragon figurine and a glass flying pig sitting on the right-hand side of the laptop. They are constantly urging me to write more words.

I got the idea from a fairy tale that I told to my family on Christmas Eve several years ago.
