If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Kim Allsup I am working on a middle grade ecotopian novel set in 2050 in a world making steady progress to address global warming. I would visit the world I am imagining in this book.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Kim Allsup A Gift of Wonder is a classroom memoir and I realized that conversations, the moments of discovery and wonder I saw in my class were increasingly threatened in most schools in the era when most teachers are told to teach to a test. I wanted to document the beauty of a form of education in which children are free to ask questions and teachers are given professional autonomy.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Kim Allsup I simply start writing while giving myself permission to write poorly. I learned this technique in a writing workshop and it works. Five minutes of throw-away writing gets me rolling. And sometimes I don't have to chuck all of the throw-away writing.

How do you get inspired to write?

Kim Allsup Inspiration generally arrives just as I should be going to sleep. If I don't have to get up early I stay up to write. But mostly I write according to a schedule and find my inspiration as I dig into the writing
