I don't believe in inspiration. Like a grain of sand in an oyster, my primary muse is irritation. If I was happy all the time I'd never bother to write a word. Once I start, the feebleness of the first draft is always a shock. Little flashes of 'actually, that's not so bad' draw me into revision, where the gap between vision and reality shrinks.

I'd go to the Land of Ev which neighbours L. Frank Baum's Oz--a bit like Wales viz a viz England--and I'd steal all of Princess Langwidere's heads for myself.

Never give up. Never, never, never. Keep writing. Try to learn your craft before worrying about publication. Read a lot so you can see what's been done to death. Discover what's popular, then go in the opposite direction: by the time you jump on any bandwagon, its wheels will have come off. And this way, maybe you'll start your own trend.
