I got the idea for my first book because of horrible situations I found myself in merely by living life with my special-needs son. I KNEW there had to be a better way to navigate doctors appointments, hospitalizations, insurance issues, staying marrying, etc. It's also hard to find an extensive list of resources in a single place, so I made a point to include many federal, state, and international resources at the end of the book.

I am inspired to write when I am very happy or when I encounter a problem (within the special-needs world) that is difficult to resolve. I want to help others with possible paths that can be taken when similar issues arise in their lives. I will blog about exceptionally problematic situations for instant relief. See my blog post about insurance denials if you are curious.

Write what is on your heart regardless of the obstacles. You will be amazed how issues might magically disappear when you persevere.

I am blessed beyond measure when someone says my book is helpful. I LOVE self-help books, so I've become committed to writing in this genre for special-needs families. I want to equip families (and professionals) with anything helpful I've learned along the way. This is my reward.

Writer's block for me is usually stress related, so I will engage in self-care activities to change my state of mind. Some of my favorite things to do include acupuncture, massage therapy, getting together with friends for a meal, or catching up on a few Bravo reality shows (a guilty pleasure).
