David McElroy At an elementary school book fair, I picked up Bruce Coville’s "Goblins in the Castle", which changed my life, though I didn’t really know it then.  My ten-year-old mind was equally enraptured and terrified of the book, and the end result was a lifetime fascination with goblins.

Fast forward to about five years ago, when I first began reading R.A. Salvatore’s Drizzt Do’Urden stories. One of his short stories, "Dark Mirror", concerns a goblin who is different from his peers. This goblin has a much darker outlook on life than my Ben does and his story definitely does not end happy, but I loved the idea of portraying goblins as something more than mindless bottom dweller villains and I wanted to see the idea expanded upon.  So, I decided to write it myself.
David McElroy I'm currently working on the second book in The Good Goblin series.
David McElroy I've tried many different remedies for writer's block. I've tried taking time off from writing. I've tried getting inspiration from other books, movies, even video games. I've tried taking walks or just being outside, getting some fresh air. In the end, for me, the only thing that really works is just writing through it. Even if that means writing page upon page of absolute rubbish, eventually something starts to click and I break through the blockade in my mind.
