S. Peek I just let my writers block run it's course. Unless it gets really long and out of hand, I just let it be. When I try to force my writing, it gets really crappy and not up to my personal standards. I also try to do other creative things, like my miserable painting and karaoke. Sometimes it sparks something up and I can get past the block :)
S. Peek I may not be a pro writer by any means, but writing has been my passion (aside from art and music) since I was a kid. Ask my mom- I was telling stories as soon as I could talk. Being a writer means you can share your stories, and that's all I really want. I'm not the funniest person ever, and sometimes my stuff gets lost in translation or confusing, but the point is, I get to give my crazy, romantic, silly stories to my friends and whoever else is willing to read them. I get to live (and invite my readers to live) in my weird little worlds, whether they're based on real places or made up completely in my head. It's lovely :)
S. Peek Don't ever stop writing. I know it sounds generic, but I'm serious. If you like it, DO IT. Even if you think you suck at it. It can always be edited.
Don't limit yourself to just stories. Write poems. Write lyrics. Write nonsensical crap. I've still got poems from middle and high school that I can look at now and rewrite, edit, and make better.
Don't worry if you get stuck. As I've proven, inspiration can come from literally anywhere. Give it time, and you'll get your groove back. There are points in time where I don't actually *write* for months at a time. But then it hits me, usually right as I'm trying to sleep, and I crank out a chapter or four.
Share your work. It's lonely to keep it all to yourself. This is why we have friends! They'll be your support and keep you honest.
S. Peek Right now, I'm working on the Part 2 of Unmistakably U. It'll be titled Undeniably Me, and it's going pretty well at the moment. Hopefully it won't take me two years to finish >.>
The whole thing was supposed to be just one book, but after looking at it, I'd realized that skipping three months into the future was just too much for one book, so I broke it off and came up with a few more story points to focus on.
S. Peek Really, it can be the absolute silliest things. For instance, I started out (and continue) to write kpop based fan fiction. The first one I can recall was over a photo of a kpop idol I've liked for years cuddled up in a bed. A friend of mine is his uber fan, and just for craps and giggles, I drummed up a few thousand words about waking up with him and being snuggled in that bed with him. From there, it hasn't stopped. I've got another currently unfinished fan fiction spawned from another photo of two members of a kpop group during Halloween a couple years ago. One of them was a vampire pretending to bite the other guy and OMFG it was too sexy not to write about. It seems like sometimes I only have two genres- contemporary slice of life romance or completely bat crap crazy fantasy worlds lol
S. Peek So, this story happened completely by accident. I follow a lot of current and former kpop idols on various social media. One in particular had left his group and started college out in California. After seeing some of his posts about college life, I started to wonder- were there any fans of his group at his college? Did they ever see him and approach him? How many were die-hard fans? After mulling the questions over for a day or two, I just had to get it out on paper (or computer screen, whatever). And poof! Book happened (after about 2 years lol).
