Elle Powers Secluded walks with ear phones in, listening to moody music—this usually cures my writer's block.
Elle Powers Drinking tea and wearing eccentric hats and scarves. Reading novels, which counts as professional study. Hearing dialogue in my head. Most of all, meeting and chatting with readers and other folk who love books as I do.
Elle Powers Choose something that's fun to write. A personal narrative, blog, poetry, comedy, screenplay, fan fiction, Facebook post ... anything. Then you can say, "I'm a writer" instead of "I'm an aspiring writer." Be a writer—start writing.
Elle Powers I first wondered "What if the angel of death fell in love?" (Honestly, I think I had come away from watching Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight Saga!) As I explored that question, I started to weave into it elements from The Thorn Birds, by Colleen McCullough, which features a priest whose romance gets the better of his ambitions and spiritual responsibilities. After visiting Ireland, I knew I wanted my angel to be Irish and I learned some about Celtic mysticism. All these enhanced the original idea/question, and the story started to take form.
Elle Powers I'm writing a fictional memoir about Edgar Allan Poe.
Elle Powers Reading inspires me to write. Listening to music. Taking walks. Sometimes it's a dream that inspires a story. Perhaps bits of overheard conversation.
