My ideas for what I write come from what is happening in the world. My most recently published book, Beyond Extinction: Even the Concept of Truth is a Lie, came from my concerns about animals and the environment. It is a fast-paced adventure but it is also grounded in current cultural and scientific developments. And love can make everything work, so a woman, a man and a Golden Retriever are central to the story.
My newest book, just offered on preorder, is CONSPIRACY: The Secret War ($0.99 on preorder at main ebook retailers except Amazon, $3.99 when released for general sale). It follows an investigative journalist on her perilous exposure of a great conspiracy. The ideas for that came from current political and cultural battles in the US and the UK.

I have just offered a preorder option for my latest book, CONSPIRACY: The Secret War. The book is set among the current political and cultural turmoil, with determined investigative journalist Lois 'Lobo' Bolen trying to expose the conspiracy while staying a step or two ahead of the conspirators' hitmen. In the process, she also exposes her own vulnerabilities. It's on offer now at most outlets including Apple, Kobo and Barnes and Noble (but not Amazon) at $0.99 as a preorder option, rising to $3.99 on the general release date.

Write with passion and your own voice. Don't worry about grammar and spelling. You can fix that later -- but you can't put the excitement and interest in text that is dull but correct. Beware of how you react in your writing critique group. Such groups are excellent for new (and experienced) writers. I enjoy and benefit from a critique group regularly. However, take from them what is useful -- and, especially, beware of trying to please the group by making sure your get everything 'right'. That will just take the edge off what you really want to express.

The best thing about being a writer is enjoying it. I find writing as relaxing as reading a favourite book. If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. Life's too short.

I don't suffer from writer's block. I started reporting for a local newspaper nearly 60 years ago. I can't imagine any successful journalist telling the Editor: "Sorry, I'll write the bomb explosion story tomorrow. I've got writer's block today." Sometimes, I don't feel in the mood for writing my books and then I'll get on with something useful like cleaning my apartment or going to the pub. I know from experience that I won't be happy with my writing when I'm not in the mood. I'll just (metaphorically) tear it up and throw it over my shoulder.
