I posed this question because some people have started with Book 2, Beyond the Hollowtangle.
It is certainly possible to start anywhere, but you will enjoy the story and character development more if you start with Book 1, Across the Fourwinds. The three books were written as a single story told in a trilogy.

I try to imagine myself in the scene, how I would react or respond in the specific situation in which I'm stuck. Sometimes it's slow going, finding a way around, over, or under the block. But imagination is a powerful tool.

When I was a child, I often thought of becoming either an actor or a writer. I think I was intrigued by the possibility of being somebody different for a while, walking a mile in their shoes. Writing allows me that creative space to explore some of those possibilities. But that's also my biggest challenge: to be bold enough (as an introvert) to write about those other characters while finding my own unique voice.

I feel most inspired to write when I have a good quiet space to think about the story's setting and feel what the characters might be feeling. Walking in the woods or sitting by the ocean are my favorite settings. Additionally, reading good books inspires me to work harder at writing well.

The main idea and original story came from the mind of my co-author, Shane Trusz. Over the past few years, we worked together to modify and develop characters and a story that we believe provides the foundation for the forthcoming Maidstone Chronicles series.
