I loved Star of the North so much when I read it last year. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. At my suggestion, my book club is now reading it. I agree that it would make a wonderful movie or TV series. Any updates on this?

I've noticed you're brilliant with imagery and description - I just read how, when Mrs. Moon escapes from Curly's house, how "a bank of clouds was rubbing out the stars one by one." Absolutely perfect imagery, considering what has just happened. As a fellow writer, I'm dreadfully envious: Do these incredible images come to you regularly? Or is long and difficult work to conjure them? Thank you for this gripping read!

D.B. John So glad you enjoyed the story, David. To be honest I don't find writing easy at all. So, yes, you could say it is long difficult work. I change my mind often, have a lot of doubts, and often delete the previous day's work. For every good metaphor there will be ten bad ones that I'll cut! I'm hoping to get better at the process, and not take so long over the next book. Someone once told me good writing is good reading. I try to read novels for about three hours a day, just to study how other writers pull off certain effects. The more I read the more ideas I tend to get.

Have you been in talks to option The Star of the North? I absolutely adored the book and I think it would be very compelling on screen--though I would much prefer a TV series than a movie, given the amount of material and political & emotional depth the book deals with.

D.B. John Hey Faith. Yes, I've been in talks to option the novel, and I agree with you it would work best as a TV series, given the sheer number of scene changes! Will keep you posted. So glad you enjoyed the story.
