Six years ago, I began writing this story after a family vacation to South Padre Island for the Fourth of July. On the drive, we listened to stories of pirates in the Gulf of Mexico, and while down there, we visited a wonderful museum. For much of my life, I had planned to write fiction that weaves in real history--Texas, US, and World. I had time to think on that drive, and after we got home, I started typing.
