Scott Newman The girl covered the toy clown with a sheet. All of a sudden, it giggled.
Scott Newman Cryptozoology has always been a major fascination of mine and was the driving force behind BRAY ROAD. I would spend hours reading up on the Beast of Bray Road and other cryptids and spend many nights watching documentaries on YouTube and television. One day while listening to Metallica's OF WOLF AND MAN, I suddenly had a vision that just looked so cool and so spooky that I just started coming up with a story around it. The song essentially became the theme of the Beast itself.
If one looks at many creatures in Cryptozoology with a serious mind and imagination, you can find many great story ideas in that field of study.
Scott Newman I'm a big movie nerd, especially when it comes to Godzilla movies, and in high school I had big dreams of becoming a movie maker so my stories started off as movie scripts I'd write whenever an idea hit me. That's how BRAY ROAD and DRACO came to be. It wasn't until my junior year, when I read Stephen King's CUJO for the first time that I decided to shift gears and write novels instead.
Scott Newman My next book is under the working title of THE NIGHT A DEVIL WAS BORN. This next one is going to diverge from the usual modern setting and take us back to Colonial America for a fictional tale about the birth of another great American monster legend; the Jersey Devil. It will take cues from the legend of a mother of twelve becoming pregnant with a thirteenth child which turns into a demonic beast on the night of its birth. There will be elements of witchcraft and contain references to other spooky legends such as the Irish Black Cat of Killakee and the Great Thunderstorm of 1638. I like to describe the story itself as being like ROSEMARY'S BABY meets ALIEN.
Scott Newman Do not waste time and do not let others or failures hold you back. If you have an idea for a story, poem, song, anything at all; put pen to paper or type it out. Imagination and ideas are not meant to be stored in your head, release it into the world. Above all, do not be afraid of what others are going to think of your ideas. The world is full of people with varying view points and opinions so someone somewhere is going to criticize what you have but there are still going to be plenty of people who will take interest in what you have also. Use the compliments as strength to keep going, and criticisms as a way to identify areas you can improve upon.
Scott Newman Writing to me is art. Being someone with a lot of Imagine, art is the best way to release that imagination. I think others would agree that when you have a great idea for something, unless you find a way to release that idea, it will stick in your mind and bug you forever. Additionally, writing is a great way to express yourself as far as your ideas, emotions, and interests are concerned.
Scott Newman Usually music tends to get me into the proper mood. When I first started BRAY ROAD, the idea hit me when I heard my favorite song by Metallica, OF WOLF AND MAN. If music doesn't help then I watch or read something pertaining to the subject matter of which I'm writing, like for BRAY ROAD or the next book I'm working on, I'll watch cryptozoology documentaries on YouTube.
