This story has been kicking around inside my head for years. Probably a combination of endless underdog or comeback stories I've been exposed to over the years. I wrote something original that I thought was interesting or would like to read myself. Ironically, the final story I committed to paper was more than 50% different than the original idea I had for the novel.
