Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?

Gabe Riggs She arrived home just as her mom was setting the table and asked, "What's for dinner tonight?" Her mother gently removed a pair of dentures from the pot and replied, "Grandma Soup."

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Gabe Riggs An email I sent off to an old high school teacher of mine. I wanted them to understand what I had been going through in high school, what I had gone through as a young adult, and the person I was now.

How do you get inspired to write?

Gabe Riggs I fell in love with someone and wrote them a lot of letters that I never sent them, which turned into poetry, which then turned into 13 hour days at coffee shops writing about the things I believe in and want to impact in the world.

What are you currently working on?

Gabe Riggs A million different things, but primarily a short story about cancer as a sentient Swamp thing-esque apocalypse bringer. Also a book of creative nonfiction about the body as a site of oppression via historical dialogue embedded within a story-within-a-story. Maybe some poetry when I feel depressed.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Gabe Riggs Get familiar with the publishing world! It's not the same as the writing one. Be willing to put in as many hours marketing your work as you put into writing it. And be honest-- if you are just here to make a buck, then it shows. Write something that changes people.
