Develop a disciplined writing practice. Get your butt in a chair, and move words across the screen for a consistent amount of time every week.
Beware of things that feel like "being a writer" but aren't writing. This includes visiting forums, websites and blogs about writing; going to conferences; kvetching about how hard it is to get published, etc.

I love getting lost in a story. I enjoy it when I'm reading someone else's story, but I enjoy it even more when it is my own.

Having an outline for my story really helps. Most of the time when I've been "blocked," it has been because I didn't know what happened next.
Also treating writing like a job is key. I don't remember who said it, but the idea that "truck drivers don't get truck drivers block, so why should writers get writers block?" has really stuck with me.
